5th Annual 5-5 Holiday Drive to Benefit the DVCCC

5th Annual 5-5 Holiday Drive to Benefit the DVCCC

It’s back!  We’re extremely excited to be running our 5th annual Holiday Drive.  For many of us, the holidays can be a time of joy and celebration.  But for victims of domestic violence,  a helping hand can be a lifeline. For every gift certificate we sell between now and December 25th, Vital Touch Wellness will be donating 5 percent of sales and 5 minutes of massage to the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County (DVCCC). Last year we raised over $800, six bins of much-needed supplies, and over 12 hours of massage for the hardworking staff of this amazing local organization. The work that the DVCCC does for our community is tremendously important.  According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by a partner in the U.S. The physical and emotional effects of trauma can last a lifetime. Domestic victimization is correlated with higher rates of depression, suicide and chronic illness, and between 21 and 60 percent of victims of intimate partner violence lose their jobs due to reasons stemming from the abuse. For these reasons and more, this tragedy that happens behind closed doors has effects on the entire community. The DVCCC is doing the essential work of supporting victims of abuse and also proactively runs programs to educate Chester County residents about the symptoms and effects of partner abuse.  Their services include a 24-hour emergency hotline, adult counseling, legal services, children’s services, educational programming, housing, and connections to area resources.  All of these services are provided for free. In fact, the DVCCC is the only state-recognized agency in Chester County that provides free, comprehensive counseling and legal options to clients.  Local victims and their children receive the support and protection they need so that they can heal and become independent. “The DVCCC is an amazing organization,” says Vital Touch Wellness owner, Jen McLamb. For the last two years, Vital Touch Wellness has been giving chair massages to the staff and volunteers there.  Jen was so moved by the work they do that she wanted to do more for the people that they serve.  “One thing that especially impresses me about the DVCCC is their dedication to outreach and education,” Jen explains. “Domestic violence and child abuse is something a lot of people don’t want to talk about.  But it’s happening much more than we realize, and that’s devastating. The more people learn about this problem, the more that can be done to stop it.” Increasing awareness, Jen says, is another big part of the 5-5 Holiday Drive. “Because another important fact I learned from the DVCCC is that the effects of domestic violence reach far beyond the home.  It impacts our schools, businesses and our whole community.” To help this amazing and essential local organization, we’re contributing 5 percent of all gift certificate sales to the DVCCC.  We’ll also be donating chair massage to their compassionate and hardworking staff, at 5 minutes for each gift certificate sold.  You can purchase a gift certificate by calling us at 484.341.8411 or buy them online. You can also contribute to the DVCCC directly by visiting www.dvccc.com. For more information about...

Introducing Bryant A. McCoy, LMT

We are absolutely delighted to announce the addition of our newest massage therapist, Bryant McCoy! And for a limited time, your first one-hour massage with Bryant is only $49! Bryant is a graduate of Cortiva Institute in King of Prussia.  He is a kind, compassionate, and positive person, and he is gifted in the art of listening to clients and developing a completely tailored massage treatment to meet their needs.   He blends deep tissue massage, myofascial release, stretching, and trigger point therapy, as well as relaxing Swedish techniques to create a customized experience. Bryant’s skills on the table go beyond technique; he possesses that sought-after quality of all excellent massage therapists:  his hands “see” where tension and pain is and “know” the optimal technique and pressure to address them.  This is a highly intuitive sense that usually cannot be learned, but is something a good therapist just has. Sometimes we call this having “good hands.”  Bryant has great hands! Off the table, Byrant’s positive energy and warm personality will put you at ease and make you feel welcomed and relaxed.  We are so excited to welcome him to our team!  To encourage you to try a massage with our newest therapist, we are offering an exclusive September Special: Your first massage with Bryant is only $49! (or ninety minutes for $84!) This special is for ALL clients, not just new clients. All massage therapists are different in their approach. If you are looking for an aggressive massage, or to feel “beat up” by your therapist, we don’t recommend Bryant. If you are looking for a deeply relaxing massage, or for a therapist who can press firmly and deeply to release tension and trigger points in a gentler, non-aggressive way, Bryant is your guy. Bryant’s hours are: Thursdays 5:45-8:00 p.m. Fridays 5:45-8:00 p.m. Saturdays 3:00-7:00 p.m. Call 484-341-8411 to book your first massage with Bryant today!   Or book your appointment online. Kellie Springer, RN Writes a Memoir

That’s right!  We are absolutely thrilled to announce this brand new book by our very own Kellie Springer. In “Relentless, A Journey of Forgiveness,” Kellie shares her very human experience on the path to forgiveness for the abuses she suffered as a child. She explores the depth of trauma and the long journey to healing, self-awareness, and self-compassion. Readers will be captivated by her candid story, anxiously accompanying Kellie through her walk of personal growth, and finally celebrating her realization of compassion and forgiveness. In telling her story, Kellie seeks to inspire others to own their stories and the truths that lie within themselves, in order that they may live from a place of authenticity. We wish Kellie the most sincere congratulations on this culmination of a lifetime of perseverance and hope. About Kellie Kellie worked as a Psychiatric Nurse for 13 years and currently practices as a Reiki Master with a gift for intuitive insights. Kellie has been with Vital Touch Wellness for over 8 years, and considers herself fortunate to share both Reiki and her intuition with others as they explore themselves and their lives more deeply.  She joyfully shares her life with her husband, two children, and two dogs to hug. What Is Cupping Therapy?

What Is Cupping Therapy?

What Is Cupping Therapy?  Part One: Soma Cupping Most of you have probably seen the recent coverage of Olympic athletes with the red spots on their backs and shoulders, revealed to be the results of the application of a therapy called “cupping.” While it is a relatively new treatment for modern athletes, the practice of cupping has been around the block for a long time.  Developed over 3000 years ago and documented in various ancient cultures such as China, Egypt, and Greece, cupping therapy was used to treat disease, resolve structural issues, and improve the flow of chi.  The technique uses cups and suction to create a vacuum next to the skin and thus stimulate blood, lymph, waste products, and other body fluid to flow through and out of the area. Before modern technology, cupping was typically practiced by heating the air inside glass, bamboo, or clay cups and turning them upside down on the skin to produce the desired vacuum effect. Today, we can minimize the risk of burning and enhance our control of the cups by using several very cool inventions.  We use two of these applications at Vital Touch Wellness:  hard, plastic cups that work with a vacuum pump; and soft silicone cups.  Each elicits a similar and yet somewhat different response in the body.  We’ll focus on the soft silicone cupping in Part One of this series. Soma Cupping Therapy Licensed massage therapist Gregory Gorey developed specific techniques for using the silicone cups that he named Soma Cupping. The way these soft, clear cups works is quite simple:  a trained massage therapist squeezes the cup, gently presses it onto the skin, and as she lets go, flesh gets drawn up into the cup as it “sticks” to the body.  It’s easy for the therapist to adjust the suction to get just the right amount.  Then the therapist may leave the cup in place for a few seconds to a few minutes, or she may apply massage lotion so that she can slide the cup around, stroking, angling, or even twisting the cup for best results.  Soma Cupping is quite gentle and rarely leaves marks on the skin.  What does Soma Cupping do for the body? The effects of these little cups is amazing. The negative pressure they produce gives them a unique advantage to traditional hands-on massage. Instead of pressing and rubbing, Soma Cupping lifts and separates tissues off of each other, creating space and bathing the tissues in fluid.  This has a similar effect to soaking a dry, brittle sponge in water – our rehydrated fascia (the tissue that wraps our muscles and organs and is full of sensory nerve endings) becomes pliable and supple, increasing our range of motion, improving lymphatic and blood circulation, and reducing pain and stiffness.  The added beauty of Soma Cupping is that it can produce the effects of deep tissue massage and myofascial release with less pain for the client. * We can use cupping in massage for various other benefits: Relieve trigger points Loosen scar tissue Improve lymphatic movement Soften tight fascia and muscles Stimulate weak tissue What issues can Soma Cupping help? So what does all this talk of fascia softening and lymphatic function mean for you?  Could you benefit from your therapist adding cupping to your massage?...
