5-5 Holiday Drive

5-5 Holiday Drive

5-5 Holiday Drive to benefit the DVCCC We’re excited to announce that our 3rd Annual holiday drive was a success!  With your help, we raised $750 and hundreds of dollars’ worth of supplies for the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County (DVCCC)  These gifts will go far in helping the DVCCC support local victims and their families while they get back on their feet. The work that the DVCCC does for our community is tremendously important.  According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by a partner in the U.S. The physical and emotional effects of trauma can last a lifetime. Domestic victimization is correlated with higher rates of depression, suicide and chronic illness, and between 21 and 60 percent of victims of intimate partner violence lose their jobs due to reasons stemming from the abuse. For these reasons and more, this tragedy that happens behind closed doors has effects on the entire community. The DVCCC is doing the essential work of supporting victims of abuse and also proactively runs programs to educate Chester County residents about the symptoms and effects of partner abuse.  Their services include a 24-hour emergency hotline, adult counseling, legal services, children’s services, educational programming, housing, and connections to area resources.  All of these services are provided for free. In fact, the DVCCC is the only state-recognized agency in Chester County that provides free, comprehensive counseling and legal options to clients.  Local victims and their children receive the support and protection they need so that they can heal and become independent. “The DVCCC is an amazing organization,” says Vital Touch Wellness owner, Jen McLamb. For the last two years, Vital Touch Wellness has been giving chair massages to the staff and volunteers there.  Jen was so moved by the work they do that she wanted to do more for the people that they serve.  “One thing that especially impresses me about the DVCCC is their dedication to outreach and education,” Jen explains. “Domestic violence and child abuse is something a lot of people don’t want to talk about.  But it’s happening much more than we realize, and that’s devastating. The more people learn about this problem, the more that can be done to stop it.” Increasing awareness, Jen says, is another big part of the 5-5 Holiday Drive. “Because another important fact I learned from the DVCCC is that the effects of domestic violence reach far beyond the home.  It impacts our schools, businesses and our whole community.” It’s not too late to help this amazing and essential local organization. See the list below for items the DVCCC needs to run its office and support the survivors. Can also make a direct donation online at www.dvccc.com. Now Offering Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Now Offering Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Vital Touch Wellness therapist JoAnn Long, LMT, recently became certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a type of gentle massage specially designed to encourage the natural drainage of lymph.  Our lymphatic system is a complex and important circulation system separate from our blood circulation. Lymph is a clear fluid that surrounds our cells and picks up the waste products that they produce.  A complex network of fine lymphatic vessels then transport this waste and other excess fluid to our lymph nodes which filter it before depositing it back into our blood circulation. When our lymphatic system needs support Unlike blood, our lymph doesn’t have a heart to pump it through the body.  Its circulation relies on tiny muscles in its vessels, as well as on the action of our muscles to power it through.  Poor lymphatic circulation can lead to overall congestion, decreased immunity, and poor cellular function and more. Reasons for poor flow include: Lack of exercise and prolonged sitting Surgery or trauma Pregnancy Pollutants (environmental and dietary pollutants produce more waste from the cells) What can Lymphatic Drainage Massage help? Lymph node stimulation and gentle, systematic strokes help clear the fluid backlog and can produce the following benefits: Reduce discomfort and swelling in legs and ankles during pregnancy Reduce pain and inflammation from sinusitis Relieve headache pain Promote detoxification Aid drainage when lymph nodes have been removed, such as after mastectomy Promote healing post surgery or trauma Relieve soreness and congestion in breasts from PMS or fibrocystic disease Enhance breastfeeding by unclogging blocked ducts Curious about trying lymphatic drainage?  Call us to schedule a session with JoAnn today at 484.341.8411.
